Sheikh Jassim’s ‘deal’ makes it easier for Manchester United to get Kylian Mbappe for £213 million

Kylian Mbappe wants to leave PSG, and he has been linked with a move to Manchester United despite Real Madrid now holding the upper hand in the transfer market.

If Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani’s takeover goes through as planned, Manchester United may make a move for Kylian Mbappe.

It has been reported that Sheikh Jassim has beaten out other potential buyers for the Red Devils in a deal worth £6 billion. The mega-rich Qatari is rumored to have beaten out INEOS head Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who had been pursuing the Premier League club since the Glazers placed it up for sale nine months ago.
Since Sheikh Jassim won’t finish his takeover until October, Manchester United won’t be able to sign Mbappe before the transfer market closes on September 1. But in a year, the 24-year-old World Cup hero could be up for grabs.

When Mbappe’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires next summer, he plans to leave the club. Real Madrid is now the favorite to sign him. However, PSG is determined to sign him to a new contract to prevent him from departing on a free transfer.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is reportedly trying to convince Mbappe to sign a new deal with a €250 million (£213 million) release clause, as reported by Spanish outlet El Debate. In this scenario, both parties win: Mbappe gets to leave PSG, while PSG avoids losing their star player for free.

In July, Al-Khelaifi stated to the press, “Our position is very clear. Kylian Mbappe must sign a new deal if he is to remain with the club. We can’t afford to let the world’s top player walk away for nothing. That can never happen.

The French international has reportedly drawn offers of up to €175m (£149m), but Real are reportedly unwilling to spend that much. Because of this, Mbappe might be dissuaded from signing a new contract with PSG, but if he does, the Spanish giants might be out of the running for his transfer.

It is anticipated that Sheikh Jassim will provide Erik ten Hag with a sizable transfer kitty. With the Qatari’s money, United can compete again in the transfer market and either pay PSG a transfer fee or offer Mbappe a lucrative contract as a free agent.

The speculation that Sheikh Jassim wants to transfer Mbappe to Old Trafford as a marquee player spreads across the continent. Spanish news site El Nacional reported as recently as last Friday that United is considering signing Mbappe as a “franchise player.”

Sheikh Jassim has stated his intention to “return the club to its former glories both on and off the pitch.” A big step in that direction would be to sign Mbappe, PSG’s all-time leading scorer who also scored a hat trick in the World Cup final last year.
An announcement of Sheikh Jassim’s takeover victory might come as soon as next month, according to The Sun. The club has not addressed the rumors.
